Workout Wednesdays // Fitness Goals.

Already this week I’ve talked about this month’s goals, my scheduling goals, my blogging goals, and now I’m going to break down my fitness goals! I’m realizing more and more that I have to work small and deliberately to get things done. I was flatlining as far as producing new blogging material this past month. I kept telling myself, “achieve your goals and dreams, Brey”, but nothing got done, I just kept reposting and skipping. Now I’m already doing better because I set goals, made a schedule, started drafts, put blogging time in my planner, and so on. I have strategy and this time I’ll actually start knocking out my goals.

The same with working out. Going “this month I want to be fitter”, isn’t going to get me very far. I need to plan when I’ll workout, how often I’ll work out, what I’ll do when I workout, set goals, achievements, prizes, the whole thing. And that’s what I’m going to do. Because I am tired of feeling bloated and guilty and kind of sick to my stomach. I’m tired of not having good foods, or really any foods around my house, never getting up and moving, and just feeling disappointed with my looks.

I want a change, so I’m going to figure out what is the best and smartest way for me to do that is.


When.
My plan is Monday, Wednesday, Friday. I was hesitant to commit to Mondays and Fridays, but with Drew’s nudging, I think it will work out quite well. This way I have the weekends solely to relax, and I can meet Drew after work on the week days. I’ll swing by right after I’m done with work and I won’t be stopping at home. I know that if I came home before heading to the gym, I’d convince myself to eat, nap, take Jax out, turn on  the TV, start something to keep me at home. I think all in all, it’s a good plan!

Where.
I’m really missing group workout classes, horse back riding, dance, hiking, and other fun workout activities. But all those things require money, and I don’t have a lot of that lying around right now. So as much as I’d like some variety and fun in my workout plan, I think I’ll just have to stick to the gym. For now I will utilize my gym membership as I get back into a routine and maybe then we can talk about other activities.

What.
I’m one of those few girls that you’ll see at the gym, but not on a treadmill. You’ll see me down in the weight room, slightly intimidated, but pumping some iron. I don’t want to completely leave out cardio though, but my main focus at the gym is definitely downstairs with the heavy lifting! Here’s my plan of action for each day:

Bench or overhead.
Squats.
Rows or pull ups.
Adductors or sit ups.
10 minutes of cardio.

I’m keeping it simple and kind of small. 3 main moves, 1 smaller exercise, and a burst of cardio to wrap things up.

Why.
I’m ready to get this show on the road. Even though I’ve had Workout Wednesdays going off and on for over six months now, I’ve still never had written down, clear goals for my exercise. I think it was about time I challenged myself out loud and with all of you lovely readers as my witness. This blog was meant for pushing myself and accountability, so here I go!

  2. I’m pretty much the opposite, I have a serious crush on the treadmill but could not be less interested in the free weight section at the gym. I do venture in there three times a week though, but only because I nurture a dream of going back to bouldering/climbing again at some point. 🙂 Anyway, loved your post – and best of luck with your training and new schedule I suppose there is some truth in the good old saying ‘fail to plan – plan to fail”! x

  3. You’ve totally got this and can do it. A few good places for free workouts to follow are on YouTube; Tone It Up and Fitness Blender. Tone It Up is free and they provide a free weekly workout schedule – I followed their weekly fitness planner and lost 20cm from my waist so I’m recommending as I know it works. All the best xx

  4. Tonight is a work out Wednesday for me and my boyfriend. We always go together and it really helps to stay motivated and now that the weather here in Germany isn’t the best, there isn’t much else to do in the evenings!
    I always used to be married to cardio when I first started because I honestly didn’t know what I was doing when it came to weights. However now I’m going with my boyfriend and he is assisting me, I enjoy going so much more and see the results so much quicker.

Even if you don’t need to lose weight (and it doesn’t look like you do), you will still feel benefits from exercise in terms of your overall well-being and energy level. Even if you can’t get to the blogging piece, I wish you much success in this aspect of your plan!

  6. Great goals Brey! It’s always best to keep it simple until you’ve made it a habit, then modify as necessary. Just getting started is always the hardest part. I love both my cardio and my weights. When I first started it was mostly the treadmill but now I’m enjoying a variety of things including classes.

  7. I recently started exercising. It feels good but one break and I haven’t got back to my Walking. I was thinking to myself that I need to have a specific goal on what I want to lose and where. I need to get the tummy fat out. I am taking your clue to write my goals and stick to it. Walking got me to lose 1 kg in almost two weeks. Thats slow progress I guess.

  8. I like the way you stated your goals so clearly! I just started back to the gym in the early mornings and I am the shy, slightly awkward girl in the weights area, so it was encouraging to hear that other people can feel intimidated too! Wish you the best with your goals this month 🙂
